It is already Thursday? Amazing.
The final ten days of camp are experienced in a flash. That is the opinion of the counselors at least. There are so many things that we are working on… big EP’s, big projects, big goals in the classes, and lots of big conversations that we want to work into the next week… but there is just not enough time.
In a way it mirrors the way life unfolds for all of us. The more we “get into” an experience, the faster time goes by. As a 50 year old, I find every day of the entire year slips by in a blur (even if I am not especially busy). The days turn into weeks, weeks months, and then another year has passed.
For many of the girls, a week used to feel like a long time but now seems like nothing at all. When you pick up your girls next Thursday, most will say that they wish camp was longer. Interestingly, this has always been the number one request of both camper and counselor alike. This has always been the main comment of all the girls no matter how long they are here (true when we did a seven week session as well as when we do a one week “Junior” session). It is true of life as well.
We always want a little more (at least if it is a good event). So we anticipate the departure with regret but a deep sense of satisfaction as well- for this has been a good place, we have made good friends, we will always keep good memories.
The Senior Celebration was wonderful last night. Not as many tears as I expected, but that does not really surprise me (predicting emotional response is a tricky business… the lack of tears at a particular moment does not necessarily mean anything). What was evident was a deep sense of connection these girls have with each other and with the camp. They love it here, they enjoy the moment and that attitude is an inspiration to us all!
We began our morning with a little “mini concert” for Morning Assembly. Wes King is one of our favorite artists and happens to have married a Greystone girl. Not only that, he has a summer home on Apple Hill. Not only that, he has three handsome sons who all are gifted artists themselves (think Christian Boy Band Potential). Add it all together, and you have a great morning assembly treat. It was a complete surprise to the girls who entered the pavilion expecting nothing in particular. Fun way to start the day!
Tonight we will enjoy our first Play: the Junior Production of Alice in Wonderland. We will be hosting the show on our Live Feed and you are welcome to tune in around 7:00 tonight to watch it unfold, or watch it later (we will leave it up for 24 hours, replacing it with the Water Show on Saturday). I am always SO IMPRESSED with what the girls are able to put together in such a short time. The big play is on Monday, we will live stream that one as well.
My updates might be getting shorter this week. Living in the moment makes computer time less and less attractive!
