We awoke to the sound of rain lightly falling on tin roofs. Sleeping late on a rainy Sunday morning has to be one of the great relaxation moments in life… I love it.
While many chose to take full advantage of the weather and sleep in, others decided to “Fly with the eagles” and come down to the track at 8:00 to run Stumblers. This is a club that my father started 30 years ago and that we celebrate in massive numbers every Sunday of the summer. I would guess that 400 campers and counselors were on the track despite the weather. Impressive!
We ran three miles, but did not have to do so in the rain. Thankfully, the rain stopped just before 8. The camp is shrouded in mist, the clouds are very low and it looks like it might rain again this morning… perfect weather for a run (or walk). Lots of great conversations and lots of great memories being made. We also hope that we are teaching the girls that getting out and having a semi strenuous workout can be a lot of fun. If a camper runs next Sunday as well, she will be rewarded with a great T-shirt (they really are nice this year, we splurged because of the anniversary).
After Stumblers, the breakfast buffet opens and the girls are welcome to get a bite to eat whenever they like (between 9 and 10). We then have an hour to get ready for Sunday School and Church (Sunday School is done with their cabin group, church all together in the Pavilion). Jonathan Davis will be preaching.
Jonathan and his wife Erin are living at camp as the resident minister. His job is to teach a short devotion at Morning Assembly each morning and preach a great message on Sunday. He is wonderful and the girls have really adopted them into the Greystone family. His precious little girls are a big hit too! I suggest you take a few minutes to listen to his devotions, posted on the website daily (on the News page, look to the right on the Morning Assembly tab …it is a great resource).
We are having fun, looking forward to a day of rest, anticipating tomorrow. Life is good.
