The camp is wound up tight this morning… it is Challenge Day and the campers are REALLY INTO IT!!!
Last night’s EP was amazing. The girls gathered by teams (Odds and Evens) at their respective fires and the cheering began. The staff play a huge role in setting the tone for the rally: the 8 men on staff (not me) divided up into an Odd cheer squad and Even cheer squad. Their antics were very funny and got funnier as the night went on. The cabin counselors and Program counselors were cheering for their teams (all staff are also on a team) and participated in their own “Staff Challenge” in front of the entire camp for the last 30 minutes of the night. We ended with a camp wide dance party and went to bed with visions of a fun day of competition today.
The girls are now in classes where they have class specific games (even crafts figures out a way for campers to earn points for their teams). We count up the points at lunch and announce the winner, to thunderous applause. It is a fun day and will end with a great EP: the Decades Celebration Dance Party at our new Dance Tent. Fun music and group dances with a retro theme, games set up on the surrounding lawn, and everyone wearing crazy costumes. It is a lot of fun, an old EP that we have made better than ever with the new facility and a fresh plan. This is the kind of thing we work on all winter long… attention to details that make “old favorites” better than ever!
The weather is pretty perfect. Partly cloudy with a good chance of afternoon thunder showers. The forecast in June will include afternoon showers almost every day. This weather pattern defines the Blue Ridge Mountains in the summertime. Any of you who have been campers and enjoyed snuggling under your covers as the rain falls on the cabin’s tin roof will know that rain is a good thing. It often provides a needed break from the routine and is actually not very disruptive thunderstorms seldom last longer than 30 minutes). All this rain makes for a lot of humidity, so we are drinking LOTS of water!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. We are having a great day at Greystone, as always!
