Rain Day

Last night a HUGE thunderstorm came through Tuxedo… so first thing this morning I went out to survey the damage.

With an old property one never knows what is going to “fail” when extreme conditions occur. Heavy wind, Heavy rain, and Lightning have often caused trees to fall down, drains to overflow, roofs to leak… my heart was pounding as I took the first steps.

The good news: All is AMAZING!!! Things look great everywhere… especially in the cabin area where we have been working very hard this week. We hired Service Master (a big cleaning company) to help our cleaning crew get the cabins deep cleaned this year. Their professionalism shows… never have the cabins been so ready for campers. Every bed is moved to the center of the room, the mattresses removed, the bed frames wiped down with disinfectant, everything is vacuumed out (walls, ceilings, drawers, floors, closets… the works). The beds are then moved back into place and the cleaned mattresses are put back on the bunks, the room gets a final sweeping and they are done.

We also have just finished having every cabin treated for insects… the interior and exterior of each cabin is sprayed by a pest control company, thus guaranteeing that we do not have “many” bugs. Our cabins are not like your homes… they are rustic by design (thus you hear the crickets and frogs at night, the birds during the day), but they are really clean! You will love them!!!

The heavy rain did not flood any cabins, nor did it flood the softball field! The drainage system that we worked on all winter functioned perfectly: not one puddle on that very big space. I couldn’t be happier!

While walking around the Fine Arts Center I was shocked at the impact of our new Department Head (Maggie Brinks) who has been painting and organizing the FAC this week. The rooms are fresh and bright, the attic is cleaned out, and she is now working on little finishing details (painting a cool “tree of life” in the corner of the main crafts room). It looks great!

The rain makes me remember last summer with a smile… can’t wait to see what is going to happen this year!!!
