Getting Ready

It sure feels like summer!

It is warm and humid outside (85 degrees, very comfortable if a little sweaty), there are sounds of progress (hammering, power washing, and cleaning crew talking to each other) all over camp. In three weeks we will raise the curtain and start the show of our 95th summer. Amazing that it is already here… we are working hard to make sure everything is perfect.

I love this place. I love the many details that go into making it work… so I am going to head out every morning and take a few photos of what looks interesting to me. Consider it the first steps of your camp experience this year.

We start with the see-saws. These iconic play things are from another era… a time when play was simple (hanging on a bar, sitting on a log). The old oak see saws have been unchanged for many years (they are very slow to wear out… lasting about 25 years, we don’t replace them very often). This was a year for change, and we did it right! The new see saws are works of art, carved out of a red oak tree, carefully sanded and stained they will provide many wonderful memories for a generation. I love them.

Brandi and Me-Me enjoyed jumping into the lilly beds in front of the office… the plants of camp are absolutely lovely this time of year. The grass is shockingly green, the trees are lush and thick with leaves, and it is now warm enough to put out the ferns and flowers that are spread around camp. Lell works hard to make everything perfect… she has planted the flowers on the summer house (the little building at the end of the canoe dock) and soon will have the blob dock planters filled.

And finally… I bought some new gold fish for the pond next to the office. The filter is running (getting the water nice and clear) and soon I will put in the water plants (water lilly’s and other flowering plants). One day we will find a location for a big gold fish and turtle pond… one day!

Check in frequently… the news is about to pick up steam! Lots to show you.
