Blue Skies

Just took a walk around camp and the report is good.

Most of our landscaping projects are done (you may be surprised to know that landscaping is very hard work… it involves taking out trees, roots, shaping soil, putting in drainage, putting in utilities and irrigation). We started the landscaping project at the pavilion in October and only finished it today!! The last shrubs were planted and the last mulch spread: YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!

Each little bit of landscaping adds a little grace, beauty, and peace to camp. Thus we spend a lot of time doing lots of little things (pruning shrubs and trees, planting flowers, spreading mulch) and usually do at least one big thing (this year we did two: the pavilion and the tent by the gym). We have been loving this property in this way for generations… the effect is quite literally stunning!

Horses were my next stop… we now have about 10 of the riding staff in camp (a good thing because most of our 70 horses are back at camp after their winter vacation on a farm in South Carolina). Most of these counselors are from other countries and come to camp for one reason: to care for horses and to teach riding to campers. They are delightful, always favorites in camp… you will love getting to know them. Who knows, maybe you can visit them the next time you are in New Zeland, England, Scottland, Ireland, Sweeden, or Germany!

Final stop: the goldfish pond. This is located by the office and is one of my favorite spots in camp. It is cool and shaded, the water plants and koi fish are a delight. Getting the pond ready for the summer is my personal job and I think I can safely say “Mission Accomplished”.

More to come… there is much to tell you about. Check the news daily, I will look forward to showing you what things look like.
