Sunday

Today we ran our first and last “Stumblers” and the girls received the prize that was promised to all that paid the price of running or walking three miles. For many of these girls, this t-shirt will become a valued part of a future collection of shirts that prove a strength of character and resolve. A great life lesson comes from the simple accomplishment of a simple goal.

The lessons of camp are simple ones:

  • Honor God (simple honest prayers and a little Scripture read every day).
  • Honor Country (respect the flag and our heritage)
  • Honor Friendship (unselfishly give of ourselves to make others happy).

These simple lessons are life transforming and very sweet indeed.

Today we will once again enjoy our Sunday routine of exercise, a slow paced morning of cabin cleaning and Church, a slow paced afternoon of free activities and an evening of fun that we call “Camp Life” (games, singing, dancing, and a nice devotion to tie it all together).

We ask the girls to write a letter to you as a “meal ticket” for this evenings picnic dinner. This letter will be a fun one for you to get for it will give you hints of what has been her favorite part of camp so far. For some it will be the carnival that we had last night (TONS OF FUN), for some it will be a favorite class that she enjoys every day, and for some it will be about a friend or counselor. Camp impacts campers in different ways… all of them good. Enjoy the letter when it comes and don’t forget to write your girls. Time is running out… you have about two more days before the “snail mail” delay impacts things. Emails always work, but hand written letters require forethought!

There is something powerful about the hand written letter. I have said so previously in this blog, and many of you have been writing hand written letters to your campers this summer. Hopefully you have gotten some good letter or postcard… it is possible that you have not (I went for years before I got a really heart felt letter from a child).

The weather continues to be perfect… high of about 80 degrees, not much chance of rain, a light breeze… it is the best weather of the summer and probably the best weather we have ever had for August Camp (August can be a bit hot and muggy). Sunday School and Church will be very comfortable in the Pavilion.

Camp is an amazing place. Thank you for making it possible. Enjoy your day of rest!
