Hot and Muggy... not a bad day!

It is only 80 degrees outside, but it feels warmer. The sun is shining brightly and the air is heavy with humidity. Our faces glisten and our shirts stick to our backs: we couldn’t be more happy.

Normal North Carolina weather has returned. Praise the Lord!

Last night’s weather could have provided another moment of mayhem as a giant thunderstorm hit Greenville SC as we were enjoying our picnic supper. We could see the thunderheads and hear the distant roar, but the storm completely missed camp. We ate our “Taco in a Bag” without a care in the world. Later that night, the Cabins on Apple Hill were able to enjoy a mountaintop concert and devotion by Drew and Ellie, cook s’mores, and watch a movie under the stars before a big storm cell hit camp (around 1:00 AM). They made it back to their cabins and fell asleep before the now familiar rain arrived.

All in all, we are blessed and very happy.

Today will be a short update. We are being visited by the Health Department (a surprise visit that is done to all area camps at least once a summer) and the ACA (the camping association that accredits us to a national standard). It is a big day in the office and will be a moment for each of the “behind the scenes” employees to shine. Kitchen, Maintenance, Program, Operations, Health and Safety… every detail is examined. To have had both visits on the same day is a bit of bad luck, but it is nice to get it all over on one day.

Tonight we will have a big surprise EP featuring a Christmas theme tacked onto a game show. Drew and Ellie will finish the night with a Christmas Concert and a devotion for the whole camp; it will be an over the top EP with gifts for all. I will put on my Santa suit to announce the program at lunch: can’t wait to feel that velvet warmth on this hot muggy day. Let’s hope Santa doesn’t have a heart attack!!!
