Last nights EP was a spectacular event. Greystone Game Show night is a lot of work. Like many great programs, the details need to be ironed out and carefully prepared one by one. The individual elements all add together to make for an exciting evening that surprises and delights the entire camp (Campers and Counselors alike)… Game Show was a home run.
We gave out big lollypops to everyone to eat during the show. There were various games that pitted the campers against the counselors. We enjoyed a video short of the “Senior Hunt/ Color Run” EP, a couple funny videos that I can’t explain in a short blog (very funny “inside jokes”… a HUGE hit). And we worked up to a photo finish with a last minuite win by the campers. Everyone “Won” Candyland gameshow custom t-shirts, shoe laces, pens, and trucker hats. Some lucky few won some very nice Patagonia pullovers… it was really fun.
Today is going to act as a springboard to the REALLY big day Tomorrow… the energy level is rising and will hit a high tomorrow. (Tomorrow will feature three big events: Challenge Day, Carnival, Fourth of July… big stuff.) I will just go through today’s details… so you know.
Breakfast of scrambled eggs, grits, sausage links, and the giant fruit bar… Breakfast Club ended the “Social” phase of the 4-fold growth plan. I encouraged the girls to seek out “Good” friends (those who bring out the best in you, fill your heart with good thoughts, make you feel at peace… friends who are also wanting to live good lives). The joke was a re-telling of that time honored “Hair Spray” joke that is a huge hit with Greystone girls of all ages. Ask your girls if you don’t know it… funny.
Lunch will be Cheeseburgers… we use freshly ground beef (prepared yesterday) and hand formed into patty’s by the kitchen staff (a lot of work… imagine what goes into that job). We then grill the meat over an apple wood fire, serve with high quality fixins… we are ready for this meal (kind of the opposite of Poached Salmon).
During the announcements after lunch the Team Captains will announce the EP (team meetings) AND a “Midnight Movie” on the Pagent Court! We will blow up the Giant outdoor screen, set up big speakers, serve movie snack food, and watch a movie under the stars. It gets dark about 8:40, so technically it is not a Midnight movie… but it will be a fantastic event. PRAY that we don’t get rain! The forecast calls for 30% chance of showers, which means it will be raining somewhere… we just pray it is not here!
Dinner is our first “Theme” dinner… the entire dining hall will be decorated in a Mexican theme. We will serve Mexican food, play Mexican music, and are giving every table special favors to add spice to the night. The girls love these theme nights… often forming little theme nights at their tables for dinner. It will be a high energy event… funny too.
Margaret Sarah and I met with our 40 new campers yesterday, just to see how their first week of camp has been. We want to know how they are adjusting, what has been hard, if they have any questions or concerns… OH MY! They were VERY chatty. LOTS of comments and moments of laughter and excited nods of agreement. These girls are a delight to the camp, bringing a lot of excitement and fun everywhere they go. We have a lovely set of international campers who are here for the first time: Mexico, Ecuador, France, and Australia (yes, she is missing school… it is winter in Austrailia… the school thought that camp was a great idea!). A wonderful moment in my day…
Have a wonderful day,
Jimboy
