Tuesday

Last nights Olympiad was really great.

The Weather could have gone any way… 50% chance of rain is like that. We saw dark clouds, heard rumbling thunder, and even felt an occasional drop of rain; but the storm never arrived. It was a glorious night spent on the track. A rainbow even showed up just as we broke out the Gutter Sundays (a wonderful ice-cream treat that we have not done in ten years). We served about 200 feet of deeply piled up banana splits… in waffle cones! It was a great surprise at the end of a great day.

By the way, the campers won the competition… easily.

Today began with a glorious sunrise, blue sky, gentle breeze, and promise of more to come. The morning should be a bright, sunny one. The afternoon has the typical threat of isolated thunder storms. Temperatures will hit 85 by the early afternoon, then cool off from there. It is a perfect July day and we are going to make the most of it.

As I type this, David’s Tennis class is singing “Oh What A Beautiful Morning”, the canoeing department is launching their first boats of the day, horses are in all three riding rings and saddling up for the trail, hammering sounds from metal working, music from Dance, and so on. Camp is as busy as a bee hive, it feels great.

Breakfast featured pancakes and link sausage… I have to give a shout out to the kitchen for the efforts that they went through to do the Gutter Sundays last night. Gutter Sundays are a messy business… fun but messy. They really busted it to do dinner then set up Sundays on the Track. It forced a late clean up, after a long day. Thank You Kitchen!

Lunch is Pot Roast

Dinner is Italian Night, one of the best meals of the summer. We will feast on Stromboli, Ziti, Meatballs, Bruschetta, big salad, and cannoli’s for dessert. Once again, the kitchen will work a long day to deliver a meal from scratch… lots of work goes into each meal… and we eat three times a day… every day… it is a tough job! I continue to marvel at how much fun they have doing it. We are grateful.

EP is the Counselor Talent Show. This is a favorite EP for both camper and counselor alike. It will feature a lot of skits and lip synchs, some home made music video’s (to our own music), a few quality acts as well (Piano, Singing, Dance). More laughter than anything else. You just feel good after that kind of night.

There is a good feeling in camp. I will try to convey this feeling for the updates every day from here on out, for it is at the heart of what we are “doing” at camp. This feeling is one that is at the heart of what camp is all about. A feeling of love, confidence, nostalgia, anticipation, fatigue, and fitness. Much has gone into this feeling (all the fun and work of the previous weeks), and we are about to enter the roller coaster of events that finish the summer. Everyone senses the big programs just around the corner, we nervously prepare for them and celebrate their arrival. We talk about them when they pass… it all goes into the tapestry which is camp. Thanks again for making it possible.
