Our last Sunday began with a light fog and blue sky. Temperatures are about perfect, providing a fitting transition setting for the end of camp.
One does not simply jump off a ride like Main Camp; first you have to slow things down a bit. Today will be the first tap on the brakes. It all starts with the Senior group.
These 16 and 17 year olds are the emotional “north stars” of our world. Today they will realize that they only have a few days left… so they get very serious with their end of camp preparations. There are going to be lots of DMC’s by the lake, lots of “plane letters” written on bunks and under trees. They will sing loudly in the dining hall and take the opportunity to roll down the pagent court, even though it is still soggy from the weeks rain storms. They will have dance parties, hold hands and skip down the paths of camp with big smiles and high pitched voices. Their enthusiasm is contageous and will make us all step it up an emotional notch. Many of these girls are enjoying their last “carefree” summer; it is a beautiful thing.
Sunday School, Church, Big lunch, Long rest hour, Free afternoon… the regular thing.
Stumblers saw a huge turnout for those who have paid the Price for the Promise of the Prize. Today they got their T-Shirt, a very hard won prize indeed. Three miles run every Sunday (at least 3 of the 4) is a pretty big deal. Complement them if they did it!
We are going to enjoy this perfect day… from the 83 degree high temperature to the slightly flooded lake… we will have a big Riflery Tournament, a big Archery Tournament, and lots of last minute preparations for the play tomorrow. Life is indeed good.
