Lazy Days

This is a lazy day at camp.

We woke up late, celebrating our third “Sleep Late Friday”. Gervais made home made cinnamon rolls for our breakfast in bed. The extra hour of sleep felt especially nice today because of the steady rain that was falling.

We are at the end of a large weather pattern that brought cool temperatures and lots of rain. For the past couple of days we have had rain falling lightly throughout the day, but it really didn’t start raining hard until today.

As I have said earlier; I LOVE the rain. Even today it is soothing my soul and providing a more mellow emotional baseline. I would really love to curl up with a book on the dining room porch… reading suits the weather!

Some campers are doing exactly that. They still have their regular class schedule, but classes often provide several options: the skills path (work on passing knowledge tests for levels), the games path (we have LOTS of them), or the “Veg” path (sit and talk one on one with a friend or read a favorite book alone). This is a lazy day, it comes at a perfect place in the summer.

Tonight ‘s EP will be Council Fire. There is a good chance we will be able to have it at the Council Fire Ring with a blazing fire (rain chance drops throughout the day… becomes scattered by the afternoon). If it is raining hard we will go in the Pavilion. There will be many awards given out to campers who have passed levels since the last Council Fire. We will also tap our second group for Temporary Honor Council.

I will be writing my girls today. Given the rain, there is a good chance of a long rest hour again today. You should pop off an email if you can…. they will have time to mull over what you say. When else do your words have so much weight? I suggest putting one “deep thought” into the note… a little personal history of your own experiences (got caught in the rain or stranded in the snow… that sort of thing). Camp letters are a great way to build connection to your daughter in a different way.

Lunch is Sloppy Joes. We are hitting some “comfort food” meals that connect to home, though I admit that Sloppy Joes are not a meal we serve very often these days at the Miller table… we used to really enjoy them! Virginis, my 12 year old, decided that she could not eat meat two years ago and has stuck with that decision every since… having a vegetarian in the family has changed our menu! Gervais does a great job offering a wide rang of options for those who don’t care for the main course… both on the table and especially at the salad bar. His Tofu and Humus is to die for.

Dinner is Spanish Night! A blow out meal of authentic Paella and Croquetas… we did it for the first time last year and it worked really well. We also learned a lot. This year should be even better! Laura and Gervais’ oldest daughter spent a year teaching English in Spain… she taught Gervais how to do Spanish cooking the right way. We will decorate the dining hall and play Spanish music… a fun meal.

Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend!
