Monday mornings are always quiet in the Dining Hall. We draw numbers, thus inventing a random set of new friendships to be enjoyed over the week to come. This routine is now enjoyed by all; there is something exciting about seeing what happens in even this little surprise of camp. We love them all!
We are anticipating the big program this evening while we enjoy another full day of classes. Council Fire last night was packed tight with awards and recognitions for time well spent. Goals were set 4 weeks ago and many of those goals have been met… to have one’s name called out at Council Fire is an honor that is deeply appreciated by the girls. We were treated to a very lovely sunset as we sat around the fire. There were some very high clouds scattered in the evening sky that caught the light of the sunset for at least 30 minutes. Each face was illuminated as if by candle long after we would normally be shrouded in the darkness of dusk. It was lovely… and symbolic of this point in the summer.
Our memories are bright even as we approach the finish line. We also are very excited to have one more “big event” to look forward to enjoying this evening. Derby Day and the Senior Play are a combination that will provide a wonderful evening for us all. It starts, like many good things do, with a big ‘Dress Up Party”. We put on our Derby Day Finest (sun dresses and big hats) and gather on the Softball field to munch on appetizers and sip sparkling punch. We then gather by the big riding ring to see the last element of our big horse show, the stadium jumping “crowd pleaser” event. The five best riders in camp have been competing in other disciplines prior to this finale event, and their score in this event determines who will be the Champion rider of 2012.
After the show, we enjoy a very nice reception picnic. We will have omelets made to order, pasta made to order, poached salmon, roast beef, shrimp cocktail—- and on and on. Gervais started preparing for this event two days ago. Yesterday they iced 1500 cupcakes, today they will bake the bread pudding and tiramisu… it is shockingly good food presented in a shockingly good setting. As nice as you can imagine.
Then we adjorn to the Pavilion to enjoy the Senior Play “Peter Pan”. The play will be as shockingly good as the horse show and the reception… it really is the high water mark of evening programs. We all know that it is coming and that it is going to be awesome… a fact that makes this day even more special.
Thank you very much for reading the updates and keeping up with Greystone. It is a pleasure.
