Tuesday...

Picture Perfect.

Last night after EP was a post card moment. The air was still and the lake reflected the afterglow of sunset like a mirror when we let out of EP. We were running late (no surprise given the 27 acts and hundreds of campers who were involved in the show), but we didn’t blow “Call to Quarters” immediately. Instead we gave the girls time to play after crackers. The Pagent court was filled with girls chasing fireflies, rolling down the hill, playing “catch-me”, and making my eyes tear up. It is just beautiful… it made me wish I had my camera… ahhhh; camp.

Today is a repeat. Sunny, warm, happy, excited, and satisfying in every way. I hope to get some pictures of Riding later on… not giving the horses their fair share of attention! Our horses are really amazing. Our barn is amazing. To add up the amount of money spent keeping it all going every year is an activity I stopped doing a long time ago. It is an over the top program with no expense spared to make it as safe and good as possible. Every time I spend time over there I am inspired. It is very hard to convey the reality through photo’s… but all visitors are blown away (even visitors who have showcase barns themselves).

My photos from Putt Cove were lost due to a file error last week, so I need to hit that again if time allows…. but time is running out. Today and tomorrow are the last full days of classes (Thursday is a half day of classes as we build up to banquet). Chop Chop.

I know many of you are going to be hitting the road to pick up your girls on Friday, so I wanted to equip you with a suggested stop-over if you like BBQ. Hubba-Hubba Smokehouse is worth the stop. Starr Teel, the “pit master” and owner of “Rainbow Row” in the heart of Flat Rock, is an old Greystone Counselor and Manager of our Food Services. He studied at the Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute and has always had a passion for good BBQ. Slow cooking with smoke is an art form that he has mastered and puts on display every day at Hubba Hubba. If you are there on Friday or Saturday, ask about the “Fish Bowl” or “Fish Taco” as a change of pace… they are amazing (the fish bowl with shrimp is a real impressive thing to see as well… the jumbo shrimps are arranged tail up in a big bowl of Asian Slaw; wow). Good with Sriacha sauce too…

Humm, I am going on a lot about outside of camp food… recognize that Margaret and I have quite literally not eaten a bite of food outside the camp gates for almost 1 month now. We are indeed living in the bubble and sometimes look wistfully out…

Tonight will be the June Camp Play “The Little Princess”. The directors have been gathering props and costumes for the big night. We have a back stage crew working feverishly to complete the stage work and lighting. The actors are walking around with their scripts… lips moving silently as they walk with knitted brows of concentration. I was a Thespian in High School and LOVED IT. Compared to football and Student Government, it was easily the most significant of my extra curricular activities. The emotional roller coaster of putting on a show makes for a memorable life experience. We wish the Play Production girls our best for a fantastic show and know that this will be a wonderful evening. The last of the camper EP’s, possibly the best.

Thank you for checking in.
