Tuesday at Junior Camp

Times flies when you are having fun….and especially at camp!! We are well into our second day of camp, and the girls are doing GREAT!! They had a fun morning of classes and we have just started the first activity of the afternoon. The whole staff is saying that this is the BEST Junior Camp session ever, and I agree that it has been awesome this year!

Last night, after my post, we had a delicious dinner…as I mentioned yesterday, Opening Day spaghetti….except at JR camp, we do squiggly mac noodles as the younger girls have a hard time with long noodles (plus it makes eating them FUN). I mentioned the homebaked bread, salad bar and we also had green beans and homemade chocolate chip cookies for dessert. During dinner we had a huge downpour of rain which was wonderful as it cooled us down and gave our plants a nice drink! It was over by the time dinner was finished. From dinner, the girls went to Evening Program, Pet Show, where they are able to share with the girls their favorite item they brought to camp. We do a short evening program the first night as the girls are usually exhausted from their arrival at camp…when I asked them how many of them had not been able to sleep at night or eat on opening morning before they came to camp most all of the raised their hands….they were SO excited for bed time!!! By 8 PM they were HAPPY about going to bed, and settling down. We ALL slept well!

This morning was a bit foggy, but still not too cold. The girls got up at 7:30, then cleaned their cabins, went to flag, and came to breakfast. We had homemade biscuits (from scratch), ham, grits, sliced apples…this is the breakfast meal that we are most famous for at camp! We also had cereal, and fruit bar (which includes steel cut oatmeal, homemade granola, plain yogurt and hard boiled eggs). The kitchen really does roll out GREAT food! For lunch we had salad bar, Shepherd’s Pie (homemade mashed potatoes, ground beef, gravy and a little cheese on top), corn and homemade bread. Dessert was sugar cookies with sprinkles (girls love this)!

After lunch, the girls go to their cabins and get ready for rest hour. When I announced this, the whole dining hall “silent celebrated” (your girls will show you what that is when you pick them up) for a long time!! Everyone loves rest hour and is tired after a full morning of activities. They get their mail, and are able to read, rest and write letters if they wish, but they have to be totally quiet. Many of them will fall asleep during this time!

This evening we will have a our HOMEMADE Pizza for dinner…it is amazing and the girls LOVE it! And, after pizza, we will have a cake decorating party for dessert. Evening Program is the Dress Up Dance Party, then it will be time for bed.

I hope you all are loving seeing the pictures on line. Our staff have such a good time walking around camp seeing all of the girls and taking their pictures, and I have fun looking through them and pulling some cute shots here and there to feature on the newspage!

We are having a GREAT day….hope you are too!
