I am blown away by how good camp looks… it really is spectacular! Camp does not “naturally” look this good, it takes a lot of work… and our work is almost done!
This morning the new railing for the pool came in. A big tractor trailer was waiting at the front gate at 6:30 ready to unload the newly powder coated steel rails and diving board pillars. The pool complex really looked great last year, but after the summer we decided to do extensive work to the “bath house” by replacing the siding (it looked good but was in bad shape). When I checked in on the work, the northern and western sides of the pool seemed unfinished… the landscaping had never been completed on those sides and why leave a job undone? We decided to do it “whole hog”… irrigation and all. When the landscapers were done, we noticed little rust stains on the concrete deck from the steel railings and diving board structures… the only way to fix this was to remove all the steel and powder coat the finish (a very expensive process that involves “baking” the paint onto the steel for a perfect bond). Painting the steel has taken 2 months but the wait was worth it: a perfect paint job that will last a hundred years.
Anyhow; I was just now walking over to the pool and stopped by Cabin 12 to see how it is coming along (we moved bunks into position yesterday). WOW! This cabin is the new standard of cabin renovation! Cabin 12 is a part of “The Castle”, the 7 unit cabin complex that houses the oldest grade group in camp. One of the little improvements that all of these cabins will get this year are new “Air-Scape” exhaust fans in the ceiling. These fans draw hot air out of the cabin and keep them nice and cool… and these fans are absolutely silent (a big improvement on the loud fans we used to have). Cabins 6-12 will all have these fans this year!
I took some pictures and am now going to try to hit a couple areas every week for your viewing pleasure! We can’t wait to get you here… it is going to be the BEST YEAR EVER!!!
