The News... just the news

A short one today. I promised Virginia that I would take her to Harry Potter and today is the day. I will check her out of camp at the end of 2nd period and we will spend a glorious day together… this will be the first time I have taken a child out of camp during the summer. Frankly, it is not necessary and is sometimes counter productive. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t visit camp while your daughter is at camp. Let the focus be on this “world”… total involvement in camp is a very good plan. It provides a home run most of the time!

But I am going to see Potter. You will not get photos from me today, you didn’t get any yesterday too… it is just getting very busy and I am finding it hard to grab the time. Now is when we make arrangements to close camp in a spectacular way. The dividends will be paid on this effort (of every counselor and head staff member) next week. I love the feeling of the gathering storm… it is coming and is going to be great.

Today is warm, sunny, with a chance of rain in the afternoon. This is camp weather, We love it!!! The menu today started with pancakes and bacon, lunch will be a hearty pot roast with roasted potatoes and a slow roasted veggie filled sauce like grandma used to make. We also will have fresh asparagus and artichoke hearts roasted with balsamic vinegar… one of my favorites. Dinner is Italian Night! Music will be played, and the mood will be enhanced with the “accessories” (Italian chef hats). The menu will feature Stromboli, Bruchetta, tomato with mozzerella, a lovely salad, and Bruchetta. Dessert will be Canoli’s two ways (regular and chocolate).

Breakfast club… building on the “Mental” side of things. First we encouraged positive expectations for each day (make it a great day… focus on the positive). Then we encouraged Goal Setting (short term and long term goals… make a plan). Today I gave them the “If you think you can, you can” talk… the example being my high school effort to become Student Council President. The joke was an old one from my father (the coffin that chased a woman to her bathroom, she threw a bottle of cough medicine at it and “the coffin stopped”). Ok… not that funny… I see that now…

Got to go put on my cape and draw a lightning bolt on my forehead.
