Just minutes ago about 30 girls finished their last “Stumblers”. The Senior girls know that this is it, and they are a bit surprised that this “finish line” has been crossed.
It was a warm, humid, sweaty Stumblers… and we loved it.
It will be a warm, humid, sweaty day… and we will love it too.
Today is a day to write. “Plane Letters” are begun today, a process that takes a very long time and is worth every minute. I don’t know when the tradition began, but it is a good one. Nobody says anything (it is a purely camper generated activity)… it is a wonderful thing. Take a few minutes or hours to compose a few words or a few pages that express your love of another camper or counselor at camp. It is a chance to deliberately say “Thank You”. These letters often become treasured posessions to be kept for a lifetime.
A “Plane Letter” is not to be read until you leave the gates of Greystone on closing day. Thus, many of you will have the privledge of being in the car while your camper opens her letters and cries. Good Bye… I don’t like saying good bye, but I do like writing. Somehow “Plane Letters” make it easier (at least for me). These letters certainly formalize the process… make it more special. The next few days will see many cases of “writers cramp” hands… and will add a sense of sweetness to the days.
Today is our Last sermon from David Speakman… you really should listen to them all on our Devotion section of the website. They are very, very good.
Tonight is our final Council Fire… it will be a long one, many awards will be passed out. By the end of the night the counselors will need flashlights to read the names. We have been very busy in our classes!
I got to go… a very busy day is already underway. Hope that you have a good one.
