Love It

We awoke to sunny skies, low humidity, light breeze, and shouts of joy “It’s going to be a GREAT DAY”.

I am excited about breakfast (Fritata, bacon, fruit), excited about my 5 minutes with the girls (“meet someone new every day” is the gauntlet that is laid down), excited about morning assembly (our first day with David Speakman- camp minister at Main Camp), excited about classes (I REALLY want to visit Dance today… the word is that Shauna is doing an AMAZING job), excited about this place.

My hope in these updates is to give you a glimpse into WHY your girls love camp. Main Camp is a camp filled with fanatics. Girls who quite literally would rather be at camp than any other place on earth. We have had girls give up trips to the Greek Island cruises to be at camp… and frankly, they choose well. I can’t expect you to understand, I am not sure I understand myself— never being a camper has it’s disadvantages— but I do have 3 girls who LOVE camp passionately in very different ways. What I see in their lives while at camp makes me appreciate camp in a keen way that is very deeply felt. I will try to convey some of that emotion over the next 4 weeks… thank you for reading.

Meeting new people is our theme of the day. It is my opinion that we can meet a new person every day of our life… but it requires a good deal of effort. My standard of meeting someone is talking to someone new in a genuine way. There is the cheerful Chic-Fil-A drive through girl who smiles as she takes my money… “You are so nice… do you smile all the time?” answer “They make us, it is part of the job.” I love that company! We are going to meet new people every day this summer.

I am going to be purchasing fireworks in Greenville this afternoon… always a big day for my friends at the fireworks stand. I call my friend “Jimmy Three Fingers”, just for fun. He loves to see me and my 12 foot enclosed trailer pull up. It takes two hours to fill the trailer with fireworks, then I drive very carefully back to camp and park the trailer far away from any structures of any kind! All of Tuxedo will be lining the highway to watch our show this year, our local gas station that has a huge show of their own every 4th of July burned down this winter… can’t imagine why. We are the ONLY show in town, everyone is talking about it. I better buy extras…

Camp is really going great. Not to say there aren’t the occasional homesick letters going home. Don’t worry about it… read my June news update (http://www.campgreystone.com/news/2011-06-09-the-bubble) on the subject if you are concerned. We are very good at helping the girls get over homesick feelings. They always succeed… parents, on the other hand… read the update!

You are wonderful to share your girls with us. Camp is going very well.. I will update later on.
