Farewell

Good bye my friends…

I write this the the few… the fanatics… the fans…

And the campers!

This would be the first time you June Campers can read the news and so I direct this short farewell to you.

It is about 8:30 and the parking lot is full. There are sounds of laughter, conversations, and cars. Lots of happiness right now as you see your parents again after a 3 week break… “My how you have grown!”.

The camp will be quiet soon. I already have a long list of things to do in order to prepare for the Main Campers who will arrive on Monday. The men staff will work hard moving beds and trunks today, the counselors will be moving out of their June cabins and into their Main cabins, the maintenance guys have a lot of trash to pick up and grass to mow. We will all be busy, but we will miss you while we are doing the work.

It really was a wonderful session. You really were amazing campers. I will list my favorite memories… you can add your own:

  • The Concert, especially at the end when the band got in the pit and sang the song with no amplification… beautiful moment.
  • Opening and Closing vespers… my mother will not be doing these programs forever; I especially liked it when the rain was falling and she was telling the story of “Georgia”.
  • Breakfast Club… this really is a highlight of my day. I loved the “Christian Bear” story and “Hambush”.
  • Sunny days… we had a lot of them, it really felt good. This is what summer is supposed to be like.
  • Thunder Storms… I love them, and we got some good ones.
  • Fireflies… I never told you this, but I think we have the biggest “Herd” of fireflies ever in the history of camp this year. The vast numbers rising from the grass every night seem to grow with every day. Amazing sight.

It is a great way to start the summer. Thank you for making it so good.

And if any Main Campers are reading this: Hang on… This summer is going to be everything you hope it will be. Something special is going on… I REALLY can’t wait to get you here and see what happens.

Greystone Love to you all…
