Anticipation

As a boy of 12 years old who loved movies, I would watch previews of upcoming attractions with a passion. I LOVED war movies and would take note of any new war movies, planning my time accordingly. Thus it was with a leap of the heart that I first saw the ad for that upcoming epic masterpiece “Toro, Toro, Toro”. My brother (two years younger, we did everything together) and I started getting excited as we counted the days off the calendar till it came to the Carolina Theater on Main Street. We were certain that everyone would want to be there, so we asked Mama to drop us off an hour early (didn’t want to risk not getting in).

Does anyone out there know this masterpiece? (1200 readers, mostly women… probably none of you had the pleasure). Well… it was not a good movie, but our anticipation of the event made it a memorable evening. I don’t remember any of the other movies I watched that year but still smile when remembering “Toro, Toro, Toro”.

Camp is like that. We anticipate tiny little things and work ourselves into a frenzy of expectation. Movie night is such a moment. We put it on the calendar and work up to it as the days go by… tonight will be our “Toro, Toro, Toro” moment. Movie Night!!! YEAHHH BOY!

Movies SHOULD be a big deal. So much better that way! Now we just have to follow the recipe. First the ingredients: lots of campers, lots of popcorn, a soda for everyone, and a good movie. Mix all that together at the right time of day (later than normal EP) OUTSIDE. Inflate a giant screen (must be gigantic, about 20 feet minimum) and match screen to a super expensive commercial projector and commercial surround sound system. It is a chill bump event.

The girls bring crazy creek chairs, blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, glow in the dark wrist bands, etc. They set up their “area” and relax to some good music as the sun slowly approaches the western mountains. As soon as it is dark enough we start the movie (not going to tell yet, you will spoil the surprise). It is so cool. One of my favorite EP’s… for many reasons:
1. I Love Movies with friends… everything is more funny, more poignant, more engaging.
2. I Love Outside Movies… the stars appear, the full moon rises, we see fireflies all around.
3. I Love Popcorn and Soda… we also serve candy… the trifecta. Awesome.
4. I Love Being together and spread out… the pagent court is huge, but we are together.
5. I Love Technology… the outside cinema system is fantastic. If you have the means, I suggest that you aquire one (shout out to “Ferris Bueller”).

Weather should be perfect. I am hoping for a shooting star moment.

Food today… Started off with a breakfast frittata (very fresh and tasty) and tons of fruit. Lunch is Cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries (personal favorite… almost never eat the other kind of fry… and remember the spaceship oven “fries” without oil so it is healthy!). Dinner is Mac and Cheese (four kinds of cheese, all freshly ground by our new industrial cheese shreader that can handle 10 pound chunks in about 10 seconds) and grilled ham. This is a kid friendly day of food.

Well, that should do it. I hope to go to riding later on and show you some of that amazing area. Might just have to do a separate riding update… I can go on and on about horses.

OK safe to tell you now. The Movie is… drumroll… pause for effect…
