The New Canoes

Camp has fantastic equipment… and we have lots of it!

You can imagine what a big job it is to keep it all in good shape, the way we do it is to buy the best we can get and replace it on a regular basis. It was time to replace the canoe fleet this year and we LOVE the canoes that we found.

“Old Modern Handicrafts” is a company in California that specializes in hand made canoes. They contract with artisans in Vietnam to make wooden canoes to order, and one look was all it took. These canoes are wonderfully crafted: cedar and mahogany planking, ribs of ash, 16 feet long and light enough for two girls to easily carry to the lake. They are stable in the water and track very straight for lake canoeing… you will love them! We have also bought an entire assortment of wooden canoe paddles to go with the new boats.

Today we got an update from the craftsmen in Vietnam, all the boats are being built and will ship in a big container vessel in two weeks. We expect them to clear customs in California by the end of April. Thought you would get a kick out of seeing them!
