Kelly did a news story a couple weeks ago about the fall colors arriving in the trees of camp… but in my check up walk this afternoon I was struck by the flowers!
There are flowers everywhere! Some have been planted (most actually), but there are many flowers in the “weeds” around camp. A quick walk through a clump of trees shows color everywhere. The more you look, the more you see.
Lessons from the flowers:
1. Take time to notice the beauty that surrounds you. When you see something that is lovely, stop a minute and really examine it in detail. Get close… it is worth it!
2. Celebrate the effort that beauty requires. Most of the flowers did not live through the summer without LOTS of preparation, upkeep, and love. Margaret, Libby, Sam, Michael, Lell, and many others work hard to have flowers for us to enjoy… when I see a flower, I see each of these friends who worked so hard for the healthy plant to thrive.
3. Marvel that hard conditions do not remove the beauty. Last night it was 34 degrees! Very cold, I assumed that the flowers would have died way before October 3rd… but today the flowers still are in full bloom! Many times we assume life is too hard… maybe it is not as hard as we think.
4. Weeds are nice. Not all weeds (some are really awful) but often times there are lovely flowers that just look like weeds. We call these “wildflowers” and they are wonderful. Life is sometimes overwelmed by “weeds”… look for the wildflowers.
I will give an update on projects later in the week… there are lots of people working on lots of things that need to be done to prepare camp to be shut down. It is very interesting.
