September is a wonderful time of the year at camp. In many ways, it is the best weather of the year: Cool nights (maybe too cold for you guys, I like it to be in the 50’s) and warm days (this year has been marked by hot days, I am talking high 80’s… crazy). We don’t have to run camp for anyone during the week, so we spend time fixing things up and making plans for improvements.
The pictures show what caught my eye this morning… so here is my stream of thoughts (each are connected to a photo:
Remember those cool surf bikes? JUNK! We ordered 5 of them, all five broke during the summer and they aren’t even worth repairing. We will replace with something better.
The Honor Council Benches are going to have places of honor in a new rock wall that will boarder the new trees and mulch next to the road. We hope to do lots of landscaping here, making the entire front campus MUCH prettier (if less majestic… I am more sad than anyone to be losing the big trees).
We are getting new canoes this year! I LOVE canoeing, it is good to have very nice canoes (makes canoeing more fun in my opinion). We are also buying very nice wooden paddles and new life jackets.
The Fishing Hut is in need of repairs… look at it… YIKES! A repair to a building this beat up is a replacing job… more to come!
Grass… we spent three weeks working on the grass. First we spray to kill the weeds (tons of them at the end of the summer). Then we seed the entire lawn (anywhere there is grass). Then we fertilize and irrigate. The first shoots are coming up, an excellent germination! We do this again in the spring, giving you a very lush grass carpet come next summer.
Mushrooms are sprouting up everywhere now… I don’t know why.
Finally the office… we are going to add a little addition to the office to house two new permanent office spaces: one for Jessi (our records guru) and one for Sarah (you know and love Sarah, she needs a desk).
