Our Last Opening Day… a good one.
Overcast and cool, perfect weather for moving trunks (I am so glad that I don’t have to do that job myself anylonger). You arrived early, had great attitudes, and dropped off an AMAZING group of campers.
These girls are so great! As I write this, everyone has had their swim test and cabin photo, the buffet line is moving quickly, and lots of little picnics are taking place around camp. The camp is alive again with the sounds of laughter, squealing, and talking. Seeing the girls running around with such delight in their eyes as they explore their new home is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your girls with us. This is going to be fun.
We will schedule the girls in about an hour and after a short meeting let the afternoon classes begin. This is the only session that has classes on the first day: we think it important to jump in with both feet as quickly as possible… no time to miss home if you are busy!
Margaret, Libby, and I enjoyed meeting you at the reception. Sorry for the crowd, but hope that you tried the scones and coffee. The scones are famous around here (the savory parmesian and roasted pepper ones are the best, I think) and so is the coffee (fresh roasted for us by “Little River Roasting Company”:http://www.littleriverroasting.com/.
I will go ahead and pitch the food for a minute… it is amazing. We bake our bread fresh every day (not one loaf of bread was purchased this year, that means over 9,000 loaves baked so far this summer). We have a HUGE smoker out back, perfect for smoking turkey or BBQ pork. We renovated our kitchen with a year long construction nightmare that has turned our meals into dreams (eggs benedict, omletes, fritatas, pancakes, french toast… and that is just breakfast). I love the process of cooking food, the celebration of eating food as a family, and the anticipation of the next great meal. Food is more than good here, it is GREAT… the girls will love it.
Tonight the counselors will present their activities in skit form… it is exciting for the campers to see their counselors on stage for the first time. Lots of cheers in a fun and funny EP (evening program) that ends (as always) with a prayer. The girls then get crackers prior to settling in for cabin devotions and tuck in before a great nights sleep in their bunks. The sounds of crickets and frogs will only be noticed after everyone gets quiet as taps blows. It is such a great feeling. WE LOVE IT HERE… Camp is GREAT!
Check the news update every day. I put my favorite pictures up top and give you some tidbits to consider. You will know what is going on, making your letters and emails even better.
Thank you. Thank you for sharing your girls and for supporting this camp. There are many things you can do with your summers, letting Greystone be a part of those plans is most appreciated. We won’t waste your girls time… this will be a great two weeks.
