Ring Tennis

I am so excited about a popular game that I want to bring back this summer – Ring Tennis! For years I have heard Smith talk about Ring Tennis and how much she used to love to play as a camper and counselor. Somehow, Ring Tennis was lost over the years. Over the reunion weekend, the alumnae played after the Great Day 5K – I was hooked!

Ring Tennis is played on the volleyball court, but instead of using a ball, you use a ring. You catch the ring when it is thrown over, and just like volleyball, you can throw it between your teammates before tossing it back over the net. And, just like ultimate frisbee, once you catch the ring, you can’t walk with it. It is so much fun, with lots of strategy involved.

While the reunion weekend was filled with fun and friends, good-natured competitive spirits sure came out on the Ring Tennis court. I wonder if it brought back memories from Challenge Day, playing in an Odd v. Even match? I want to bring it back for Challenge Day this coming summer. I just need help from Smith to get the rules down. Start working on your ring throwing skills – it will be great!
