This weekend at camp, we hosted a BBQ competition to benefit the Henderson County Young Leaders. This organization raises money to send youth to local camps. The competition is truly unique in that it is a youth BBQ competition, with participants under the age of 18. Our Greystone kitchen team placed 3rd overall, with their BBQ fish tacos placing 2nd in the Competitor’s Choice competition. We also had 2 Greystone camper participants – they had a blast!
Champion pitmaster and BBQ legend Mike Mills was also in attendance. Mike is often featured on the Food Network, as he has won numerous BBQ competitions. His book, Peace, Love, and Barbecue, received the 2006 National Barbecue Association Award of Excellence. In October 2008 he was honored with the Pioneer of Barbecue award at the Jack Daniel’s World Invitational Barbecue Cooking Contest. It was so cool having a BBQ legend at camp!
