Banquet Day

Campers love everything about this day… It is Banquet Day, the most exciting day of the summer! Many girls have looked forward to this day since they arrived (it is the most popular EP by a long margin). The girls keenly anticipate the celebration today and the reunion with you tomorrow morning. We look forward to what is coming and we make celebrate the hours left at camp. We enjoy sweet conversations with friends, we enjoy our morning classes, knowing that today will be the last opportunity for such fun. And we talk about the big banquet this evening!

Banquet preparations have been taking place since the campers arrived, with counselors practicing their skits and completing their cabin plaques, which will be revealed at flag this evening. The dining hall is off limits all day, transformed into a banquet hall of magnificent proportions in the theme of the banquet play (we will eat a “fabulous hot dog buffet” picnic for lunch). The afternoon will include extra time for packing up and then a big camper assembly where they will sing and dance one last time as well as see some of the great video’s that Leland has prepared from the summer.

It has been a wonderful session.

The sky is overcast this morning, keeping the temperatures lower by at least 5 degrees. The weather forecast predicts a good chance of scattered showers throughout the day, hopefully the rain will hold off until rest hour! We are very thankful for the dry summer this year (we are about 4 inches under our normal rainfall amounts). There has been enough rain to keep the lake full yet seldom has the rain impacted a scheduled class or camp event. Temperatures have been very comfortable. We have enjoyed the camp setting fully… as I keep saying, it has been a wonderful session.

A few notes about Closing Day:

Arrive before 9:30. No need to get here before 8, but sometime between 8 and 9:30 is great. If you are going to be later than 9:30, let us know!

Your baggage will be waiting for you at the track. We will bring all the bags from the cabin to the track, including laundry bags. Each bag will be tagged with the camper name and the number of bags that we brought to the track for that camper. Our counselors will help you load your vehicle, but don’t assume we will get everything! Laundry bags are often left at the track.

Turn the radio off. While the girls will want to check their cell phones, listen to the radio, or watch tv… take a page from the camp book and make the first hour a time for uninterrupted conversation. Your girls are ready to talk, encourage them to tell you everything! I always love that debriefing time that happens in the car, don’t squander it!

Talk about next summer. If your camper wants to return to camp next year (and I bet she will), go ahead and decide which session she will attend and make that reservation on the website. The Early Bird enrollments for the entire 2016 season open tomorrow and will remain open for two weeks. After the Early Bird deadline, we will open 2016 enrollments to the girls on the Wait List. You should know that if you miss the Early Bird, you will most likely be put on the Wait List.

Thank you for your support. Thank you for reading the blog and “buying into” the Greystone experience. Your girls are spectacular and we have LOVED sharing camp with them.
