Monday Kick Off

Another beautiful morning. I seem to be spending a lot of time on the weather on the blogs this session but it is hard not to comment on such a wonderful part of the experience! A steady 8 MPH breeze is coming off the lake, blue sky, low humidity, warm temperatures… perfection in the mountains is about accurate. It is nice that the girls are getting such great weather. It is a nice way for us to enter this final week of camp, encouraging campers and counselors alike!

Last night we surprised the entire camp with a movie night EP. The girls had been running around camp all afternoon doing free activities and we felt that they would appreciate a slow EP as a change! At the longer sessions the campers take the opportunity of a free afternoon to slow things down a bit. There is a lot of “chillin” around the camp as the girls wisely recharge their batteries for the week to come. August campers don’t think that “chillin” is as much fun as “running, jumping, dancing, swimming, and playing”. By the end of the day they were ready for a movie. The youngest girls watched “The Little Mermaid” and the rest of camp watched “High School Musical”. It was a great program to finish a great day.

Classes are in full swing again, with counselors working hard to finish up skills in the next few days. Thursday is marked by end of camp programs after lunch, so we really only have three more days of regular classes. Making each day count… Carpe Diem… not a bad motto for life!

David Vining did Breakfast Club today, surprising the entire camp. I have done every Breakfast Club this summer and have done so for many years; but David wanted to do it and I was delighted to give him the microphone. David has been on staff since 1981 and is much loved in the camp community. He is the Tennis Department head but that is not why the girls love him. They love him for his wonderful attitude of joy each and every day. He never has a cross word, never is anything other than supportive and fun. When such a man speaks, people listen. His message today: don’t talk about having a great day, do it! What we do is what really counts. Simple and true.

I am late writing the blog today because it has been a busy morning! The end of camp is a very hectic time, the end of the summer is particularly hectic. In it all we are having a blast and are grateful for your girls. They are wonderful campers in every way.
